LigaTurf Cross GT zero on the FC Bayern Campus
Those who aim to rank among the best in sports clubs actively invest in youth development. Young talents are supported in regional performance centers, national and Olympic training centers. The German football record champion from Munich has been nurturing emerging talents since 2017 at its own FC Bayern Campus. On the roughly 30-hectare site, there are a total of eight football pitches – where the U9 to U19 teams as well as the women's and girls' teams of FCB train and play. In addition, the site features a sports hall for basketball, handball, and table tennis departments, as well as small football fields and a beach soccer and beach volleyball field.
As a leading provider of sports surfaces, Polytan is proud to now present the newest project on the FC Bayern Campus. This small pitch is not only the fifth synthetic turf system Polytan has implemented for the club, but also a sustainable milestone for Munich's young football talents. The mini pitch has been equipped with our innovative LigaTurf Cross GT zero, the world’s first 100% carbon-neutral synthetic turf system. The climate-neutral football turf is largely composed of bio-based raw materials. In addition to high sustainability, these guarantee a natural grass-like appearance and perfect playability. The visual highlight of the mini pitch is undoubtedly the FCB logo, which has been integrated into the center circle of the turf as a special installation.
A significant contribution to sustainability and environmental protection was made by infilling the synthetic turf with cork, a natural material. Additionally, we installed the elastic base layer Polytan PolyBase GT, our innovative product from the latest Green Technology development. This combination of sustainable and environmentally friendly components integrated into a modern synthetic turf system convinced the officials at the FC Bayern Campus. They ultimately decided on the most sustainable product available on the market today and are thrilled by the natural look and feel of LigaTurf Cross GT zero.
The mini pitch, covering an area of 1,200 sqm, was created as a multifunctional replacement for a former beach soccer field. At the official handover in June 2023, the CEO of Sport Group EMEA summarized Polytan's goals not only for this project: “With our commitment to sustainability and environmental protection, we aim to offer football clubs worldwide innovative solutions. The project at the FC Bayern Campus is a shining example of how we can protect both sports and the environment together.” The golden key to the pitch was personally handed over to Sebastian Dremmler, head of the FC Bayern youth academy, with the remark that this completely “green” mini pitch marks an important step towards ecological responsibility in football. With this groundbreaking project, FC Bayern is explicitly setting an example for sustainability and environmental protection in football. And Polytan looks forward to seeing future talents grow on this state-of-the-art and eco-friendly pitch.
