Multifunctional Sports and Recreational Facility

The municipality of Augustdorf, located between Bielefeld, Detmold, and Paderborn, sits at the foot of the Teutoburg Forest and on the edge of the Senne, the largest contiguous heathland in North Rhine-Westphalia. Augustdorf is known as a military base and training ground; additionally, the Senner horses are considered one of Germany's oldest known horse breeds. The municipality offers its approximately 10,000 residents a variety of opportunities for athletic activities, including recreational and rehabilitation sports, as well as football, handball, tennis, swimming, volleyball, artistic cycling, and, of course, horseback riding on Senner horses. Among the local sports facilities is the Heide Sports Field, where FC Augustdorf has been training and playing since 1952—although for forty-eight years, it was on the unpopular ash surface. Therefore, the field was converted to an artificial turf surface in 2000.

As part of the comprehensive redesign of the Heide Sports Field into a family-friendly, multifunctional sports and recreational facility, our Polytan LigaGrass Pro with CoolPlus surface, featuring cork infill, was installed. This surface is ideally suited for multifunctional use. The LigaGrass Pro filament with its triangular cross-section guarantees even greater fibre stability, giving the turf more volume and structure. As the first crimped Polytan artificial turf system, LigaGrass Pro also features a BiColour colour scheme for an exceptionally natural look. The built-in, permanent CoolPlus function reduces turf heating and is particularly effective in textured turf systems due to the large surface area that reflects heat radiation effectively.

The artificial turf field in Augustdorf was designed as a youth playing field (35 m x 55 m) and now serves as the centrepiece of the new facility—but it is by no means the only field. The sports complex also includes a multifunctional plastic sports field (40 m x 20 m) with football goals and basketball hoops. Additionally, there is a calisthenics facility, a synthetic running track, a shot put area, a boules field, as well as multi-generation fitness equipment, climbing rocks, and numerous benches for resting and relaxing.

Our products were also used for the synthetic sports field, the shot put area, and the synthetic running track: the Polytan Rekortan BS, an economical all-round solution for athletics, and the professional sports surface Polytan Rekortan M, which has proven its competition suitability worldwide. The structure-coated Rekortan BS is mainly used for running and approach tracks as well as athletics facilities. It features a structured surface that is both water-permeable and enables quick and easy installation. Rekortan M impresses with outstanding acceleration and elasticity. It is fast, offers excellent damping, and has superior sports medicine properties.

Of the financial resources amounting to approximately €840,000 for the redevelopment of the old Heide Sports Field, around 75% was covered by the funding program "Social Integration in the Neighborhood" with federal and state funds. The new facility was inaugurated in October 2020. Today, training sessions as well as championship games for G, F, and E juniors are sometimes held at Heide Sports Field in Augustdorf.
