Sports Surfaces for World Leading Performances

The Helmut-Körnig-Halle in Dortmund is an indoor sports arena located on the "Sportmeile Strobelallee," right next to the Stadion Rote Erde and the Westfalenstadion. It is a multifunctional event venue and also serves as a federal base and the performance center for athletics in Westphalia. Additionally, it hosts numerous large events. As a venue for both national and international competitions and training, it offers space for up to 4,500 spectators. The hall features a 200-meter oval track with six lanes, a 60-meter sprint straight with eight lanes in the interior, and separate throwing and jumping areas. Retractable side stands can be used to create a 100-meter sprint track specifically for training purposes. In 2019, the city of Dortmund and the Olympiastützpunkt Westfalen gGmbH decided to expand, renovate, and optimize the Helmut-Körnig-Halle. The main focus during this development was on sprinting, hurdles, running, jumping, and throwing disciplines. The oval track, sprint straight, and the run-ups for long jump and high jump within the oval were equipped with our solid plastic surface Rekortan PUR Indoor in brick red. This surface meets strict indoor emissions limits, making it ideal for athletics halls like the one in Dortmund. Thanks to the combination of its elastic base layer and solid construction, Rekortan PUR provides optimal performance for professional athletes as well as demanding amateurs, even in its indoor version. It also stands out with remarkable acceleration and exceptional energy response. In other areas inside the oval, Rekortan PUR Indoor has been installed in reed green.An additional long jump and sprint facility outside the oval is equipped with Rekortan M Indoor in brick red, one of our classic solid plastic surfaces. Over the years, this surface has proven itself with its speed, excellent damping, and outstanding sports-medical properties. Surrounding areas outside the oval feature Rekortan M Indoor in reed green. The Helmut-Körnig-Halle is also equipped with the Polytan SMART system, which enables precise measurement and documentation of training performances. This system allows for analyses such as jump tests, endurance evaluations, and sprint tests. SMART Timing Gates have been installed in the oval track, in the run-ups for long jump and high jump within the oval, as well as in the 100-meter sprint track used for training purposes. In January 2024, spectators at the Helmut-Körnig-Halle were thrilled by the "Sparkassen Indoor Meeting," which delivered five world leading performances, including an unexpected victory by Laura Raquel Müller in the women's long jump competition. She achieved an impressive 6.81 meters on our surface. Since last year, the talented long jumper and sprinter has also been a brand ambassador for Polytan, not least because she trains on our sports surfaces.
