The Swedish community Strängnäs faced a major challenge recently: Too many athletes, too few usable playing fields. The city's existing artificial turf pitch, Vasavallen, was working to full capacity, while the natural grass pitch at the Larslunda IP sports complex was in need of refurbishment.Polytan was commissioned to convert the natural grass pitch into an artificial turf pitch with Polytan's export product, Ligaturf Legend Pro. To prevent the discharge of infill material, Polytan proposed during the planning of the plant border the playing field with artificial turf instead of the usual asphalt. The additional artificial turf area around the playing field keeps the infill even in bad weather and despite snow removal on the course. In winter, it serves as a snow store: As soon as the snow has thawed, the infill can be returned to the square. In addition to this function, the area is also used as a warm-up area for athletes. The sports complex is also equipped with locks in which players are asked to brush off any adhering material before leaving the court, as well as with a drainage system for rainwater, which protects against closure and frost damage. An additional collection basin filters harmful material out of the water before it enters the environment. The LigaTurf Legend Pro in Larslunda IP is an excellent example of Polytan's commitment and expertise in sustainable solutions. Thanks to its unique design and playing characteristics, it is both aesthetically appealing and environmentally friendly. With its 2,000 functional hours (compared to just 300 hours for natural grass), the artificial turf has extended and improved the soccer season in Strängnäs. The playing field is well received and used consistently by the community, in particular by local youth teams IK Viljan Association.
