After a six-year hiatus, the “Euroleague Basketball” was held again in Berlin in May 2016. In the “Final Four,” the top four teams competed for the European Men's Championship title. As part of this major sports event, the School at Teltow Canal received a new basketball court with a synthetic surface from Polytan. The transformation of the old asphalt area into a trendy basketball court was financially supported by the sponsors Turkish Airlines Euroleague and Dogus Group as part of their “One Team” and “Stay in the Game” promotion projects. The goal of these social initiatives is to support disadvantaged and marginalized children and young people. A fundamental requirement of the project was that the facility would be available to local kids beyond school hours. New basketball hoop systems, a ball protection fence, and the green landscaping were key renovation measures, alongside the installation of the Polytan SE sports surface. The 15 mm thick, water-permeable synthetic surface with a smooth yet non-slip finish in Berlin-Neukölln is composed of sky blue, dove blue, and light grey EPDM granules. This unique color combination visually underscores the joy of sports.
