Two McArenas with surfaces from Polytan at the Sportpark Weil/Esslingen
Open-air halls are becoming increasingly popular – not only among athletes but also with operators like clubs and municipalities, particularly because sports can be played here in any weather and expensive heating in winter is no longer necessary. At the "Sportpark Weil" near Esslingen am Neckar, the idea arose to construct two open-air halls at once – living up to the motto: double is simply better. These arenas, built by the McArena GmbH and equipped with appropriate surfaces from Polytan, are used by the two operating clubs, SV 1845 Esslingen and FC Esslingen, as well as other organizations such as Lebenshilfe Esslingen and Diakonie Stetten. The two halls, each 30 x 15 meters in size, have different usage focuses and correspondingly tailored surfaces. While the SWE Arena is optimized for recreational and disability sports – offering, among other things, various wheelchair sports – the McArena of FC Esslingen is primarily focused on football. The SWE Arena features our Poligras Mega CoolPlus, an infill-free multisport artificial turf. It enables a variety of sports and activities – in Esslingen, this includes fencing, volleyball, cricket, and Zumba. Most importantly, the dense full-plastic turf system is wheelchair-friendly. The opposite hall is equipped with Polytan LigaGrass Synergy, the perfect turf system for mini-pitches. The two small pitches each have markings for football (white) and volleyball (blue). The LigaGrass Synergy surface guarantees exceptional play and running comfort, providing player protection and skin compatibility. Additionally, players in the hall benefit not only from the fresh air but also from features like a built-in shot speed measurement, a scoreboard with goal counters, modern LED lighting in the roof for optimal illumination, and last but not least, an integrated sound system. Booking the fields couldn’t be easier – digital reservations can be made in just a few clicks by sports enthusiasts in and around Esslingen. Since the playing fields are fully enclosed by boards and nets, there’s no more frustrating ball retrieval, allowing for nonstop action. Sustainability was central to the planning and operation of the two arenas. The roof surfaces of the two open-air sports halls are equipped with photovoltaic systems and extensive green roofs. Thanks to the low power consumption, achieved through full building automation, both arenas qualify as so-called plus-energy halls, meaning they produce more electricity than they consume.
