Polytan Rekortan RT and Tartan GOLD in the French city of Cherbourg-en-Cotentin
There are few cities worldwide that have changed hands as often as Cherbourg. As a strategically important port city at the entrance to the English Channel, it was of interest to both the French and the English, who frequently alternated control over it. One of the city’s landmarks is La Rade de Cherbourg, which includes several developed port facilities and was home to the world’s largest artificial roadstead for centuries, essentially an anchorage before the actual harbor.Since 2016, the historic port city of Cherbourg has been part of the core city of Cherbourg-en-Cotentin, which also includes the municipality of Querqueville. The approximately 5,000 residents have access to sports facilities at the Stade Pierre Fernagu, which opened in 1982 and features a football pitch and an athletics track with eight lanes. The facility is used by the athletes of AS Querqueville, who also practice jumping and throwing disciplines here. The athletics school of the club, specifically for children aged eight to eleven, particularly benefits from this. The football pitch is reserved for the AS Querqueville football division. In 1983, the first synthetic track was installed and renewed in 2005. In 2020, the eight lanes underwent renovation, during which two of our products were used for the first time: Polytan Rekortan RT in brick red and Tartan GOLD. The project was co-financed by the council of the Departement de Manche and Cherbourg-en-Cotentin. With our Re-Topping systems, we provide professional solutions for worn and aging tracks – allowing old surfaces to be technically and visually renewed and optimized for training and competition conditions. Polytan Re-Topping systems offer an extremely economical way to renovate athletics tracks since the existing elastic substructures remain intact, ensuring sustainable use and avoiding disposal. The installation on the old surface is independent of the original construction method. All our Re-Topping surfaces feature structured finishes, are spike-resistant, and provide the perfect foundation for professional applications. At Stade Pierre Fernagu, 6,300 sqm was installed in brick red.Additionally, 200 sqm of Polytan Tartan GOLD was used for the runways to the jumping pits. This classic surface has been continuously developed into a high-performance solution for international top-level sports. The combination construction of full PU in the top layer and damping sub-layer makes Tartan GOLD particularly durable and ensures consistently good shock absorption. The embedded granules in the wear layer make it ideal for spikes-equipped running shoes and offer extremely high acceleration. The energy-enhancing tread elasticity and high abrasion resistance round out the advantages of our premium surface.
