Rekortan at Stadio Monti Rossi, Sicily
Nicolosi is located 16 kilometers north of Catania, on the slopes of Mount Etna, Europe’s highest active volcano. The volcano has shaped the lives of the town’s residents throughout history, with the area being devastated by eruptions multiple times. Remnants of its more recent volcanic activity include two pyroclastic cones that were formed during Mount Etna’s largest recorded eruption in 1669, today known as Monti Rossi. At their flanks, near the main volcano, lies the Campo di atletica Pineta Monti Rossi sports facility, commonly referred to as Stadio Monti Rossi. Athletes training or exercising here have a stunning view either of the periodically erupting mountain or the magnificent Bay of Catania stretching toward the Ionian Sea. To allow athletes to fully focus on their performance, we have equipped the track and field areas with one of our premium surfaces: Rekortan M in brick red. This water-impermeable professional sports surface has always been a foundation for breaking records. Its name derives from the terms "Record" and "Tartan." Rekortan’s main features include excellent acceleration and high step elasticity. It is fast, offers optimal cushioning, and has outstanding values in sports medicine. The granulate with visible peaks is embedded in this pour-coated surface, making it especially suitable for use with spikes. Rekortan M is generally the optimal solution for running tracks in athletics stadiums and school sports facilities. At Stadio Monti Rossi, the surface is installed not only on the eight circular lanes, which integrate corresponding sprint tracks, but also in sectors designated for standard jumping and throwing disciplines. For hurdle races, water obstacles are incorporated into certain track segments. The facility is mainly used by the athletes of the Atletica Monti Rossi Nicolosi athletics club. Let’s hope Mount Etna remains relatively inactive for the foreseeable future, sparing Nicolosi from lava flows: the Campo di atletica Pineta Monti Rossi facility is built directly into the volcanic rock of the last eruption on its northern edge.
