Polytan LigaTurf Cross at UCPA SPORT STATION in Meudon
With a population of nearly 50,000, Meudon is located just a few kilometers southwest of Paris and is part of the Banlieue, the outskirts of the French capital. Historically, the town was a favored residential area close to the city, featuring both the Old and New Castles. Though their existence was short-lived—one caught fire during the French Revolution, and the other was destroyed during the Franco-Prussian War—extensive parks and numerous green spaces remain. These contribute to Meudon’s reputation as a “green city,” deeply rooted in ecological initiatives. The town has long attracted intellectuals and artists: author François Rabelais spent his final years here, Richard Wagner composed "The Flying Dutchman" in Meudon, and Édouard Manet spent several months recuperating in the town. Perhaps most notably, sculptor Auguste Rodin lived in Meudon for over twenty years. His former residence is now a museum and remains a key attraction.Standing as a modern architectural gem, the sports complex within the newly developed eco-district Pointe de Trivaux à Meudon is a true urban highlight. This complex is widely considered a design and technical masterpiece, housing an ice rink and, remarkably, an outdoor football pitch atop the building's roof. The facility combines five popular sports activities in a compact space, particularly appealing to youth: a public training and football playground, a privately operated ice rink, eight squash courts, a climbing wall, and a fitness center. The fitness area includes cardio and strength training zones, a cross-training section (including indoor bikes), and a group training studio. This efficient use of space within the city center creates a large modern residential area featuring numerous communal spaces and playgrounds. The 8,500 square-meter multi-sport facility, which opened in 2021, is operated by UCPA, the national union of outdoor sports centers. The complex's heating is both economical and ecological, utilizing waste heat generated during ice production for the rink. This innovation earned the support of the Ile-de-France Regional Council, which contributed nearly €400,000 to the project as part of the "innovative and ecological districts" initiative. Planners anticipate 175,000 annual visitors to the facility. The rooftop stadium at UCPA Sport Station is exclusively dedicated to football. Certified as Level 5 by the French Football Federation, the pitch meets the standards for hosting local, regional, and national competitions. The field includes two adjacent pitches surfaced with our LigaTurf Cross turf, which is highly resistant and therefore ideal for sports schools and professional training centers. The combination of smooth and textured turf fibers makes Polytan LigaTurf Cross an ideal football surface, allowing continuous use even during bad weather. The turf aligns perfectly with the ecological vision of the project. It is filled with sand and EPDM granules—features that enhance quality and ease of maintenance. The pitch only requires brushing to straighten the grass fibers and balance the infill, ensuring it does not become too compact or hard.
